Academic Job Openings
The School of Education is one of ten academic units at UMKC and is located in the heart of Kansas City’s energetic and diverse urban environment. The Kansas City metro area has a growing population of almost two million people, representing diverse socioeconomic, ethnic and racial backgrounds. In keeping with the needs of our diverse community, the School’s mission is to empower professionals to become reflective practitioners committed to a more just and democratic society. This mission is centered on five key values: academic excellence, reflective practice, collaborative application of learned knowledge and skills, democracy and social justice, and creating caring and safe environments characterized by respect for all.
The School has an undergraduate enrollment of about 600 students and a graduate enrollment of over 800. Approximately 50 full-time faculty are organized into three divisions (Counseling and Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instructional Leadership, and Urban Leadership and Policy Studies in Education) and a cross-divisional Teacher Education Coordinating Council. The School offers baccalaureate degrees in early childhood, elementary, middle, and secondary teacher preparation, as well as graduate degrees at the master's, specialist and doctorate levels. A mark of excellence for the school is the nationally known Institute for Urban Education, a unique teacher preparation program in which students are immersed in urban educational experiences from their first day of university study. The School's teacher education programs are fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program is accredited by the American Psychological Association.
