Michael Wei, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor and TESOL Program Director
My favorite part of coming to work each day is the opportunity to teach my students and learning from them at the same time.
Why did you choose to focus on learning and teaching in urban environments?
I made a conscious decision in 2006 to focus on learning/teaching in urban environments because most English language learners are living in urban areas so now English language learners are an important part of urban education.
How do you incorporate technology into the classroom?
Technology is the tool that every student needs to learn how to use. A classroom without technology is not a modern one. I use PowerPoint slides for each class of mine. Students submit their assignments to LiveText and Blackboard and students receive my feedback on many of their submitted assignments online. Students can read my feedback on iPad, iPhone, etc. and communicate with me through those devices.
What were you like as a student?
I was like a sponge, learning whatever I could from my teachers and peers.
