We’re excited to share news on an initiative. The Division of Continuing and Professional Education, in collaboration with the UMKC School of Education academic divisions of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies (TE&CS) and Educational Leadership, Policy, and Foundations (ELPF); the UMKC Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC); and contributing UMKC Charter Schools to accomplish A New Teacher Induction (NTI) program designed to address schools’ need for induction and initial hours of ongoing support for first year teachers or those new to the district per DESE requirements. The NTI program incorporates the Missouri Educator Evaluation processes as a foundation and expands outward to meet or exceed the underlying mission to improve student achievement and increase teacher retention.
The Conference for Induction of New Teachers to Urban Education (INTUE) (See, paragraph four above) is a two day collegial conference. While intended to be a kick-off event for school district cohorts who participate in NTI over the course of the school year, any school may use it for professional development opportunities (15 hours) (mentors + 4). The conference has ten (10) workshops (one or two hour) with experts in the field and includes two lunches with keynote speakers. School districts are scheduled with breakout opportunities.
