As you know, we are offering three courses this winter intersession: Adolescent Development, Educational Psychology and Government and Legal Aspects of Education, which will run December 28-January 15, 2016. Please let students know that they can enroll beginning this week via the CPE website at http://umkc.edu/education/cpeenroll. A flyer will be made available shortly which you can share with students.

A heads-up that the University’s 2015 United Way campaign is scheduled for the week of November 2-7 and I would like to thank Dr. Phyllis Chase for agreeing to be the School of Education’s representative for this annual event. More information will be forthcoming.

Many of you joined us for the benefits meeting following Friday’s faculty meeting; our collective thanks to UMKC’s senior human resources specialist, Ted Stahl, for outlining the upcoming changes for us. Know that everyone must make an election (even if you are opting out of health coverage this year) during the enrollment period starting today and lasting through October 30th.

Mid-year graduation will be Saturday, December 19th, at 5:00 p.m. at Swinney Recreation Center. Volunteers are needed to serve as degree and faculty marshals; please contact Mr. Brad Martens if you are available to participate in this way. Those of you who need regalia will need to place your order with Brad by November 20th. I again look forward to great participation from our faculty and staff to help celebrate our newest graduates!

We have several faculty and staff position searches underway this fall. My thanks to search committee members for the Office Support IV position in CEP: Dr. Nancy Murdock (chair), Ms. Chris Popoola and Ms. Sheila Thomas; for the Office Support IV position in CPE: Dr. Micheal Strohschein (chair), Dr. Rita Barger, Ms. Christine Timmerman, Ms. Annetta Toomey, Ms. Jackie Walter and Ms. Amy Cole (from the Registrar’s Office); and for our Assistant/Associate Professor in Language and Literacy: Drs. Kindel Nash and Louis Odom (co-chairs), Drs. Clare Bell, Ekaterina Strekalova-Hughes and Connor Warner.

Many of you have been asked by your division chairs to provide updated vitas for posting on the SOE website and I would encourage you to make any necessary updates to these documents by the end of the month.

And, a final reminder that the deadline for Graduate Assistant Fund applications is Monday, November 2nd.

Let’s get our blue on; go ROYALS!
