University Academy High School, one of the UMKC sponsored charter schools, hosted Cheryl Brown Henderson, daughter of Oliver Brown, plaintiff in the historic Brown v. Board of Education, and founding president of the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity as a panel presenter on educational options last Thursday. Students from University Academy, which this year had the highest standardized state test scores in the state, asked questions from the audience and later joined the panelists in discussions on how to move forward as a community. The School of Education as a learning organization, the UMKC Charter School Center, and our community are proud of the staff and students of University Academy.
A reminder that Mikah Thompson and Kevin Sansberry will be here this Friday from 12-2 in room 307 for search committee training. If you haven’t yet done so, please RSVP. A light lunch will be provided from 11:30 a.m. – noon.
And, as you know, the UMKC Campus Climate Survey is open until November 4. I encourage all faculty and staff to share your thoughts so we can attain a 30% response rate and receive school specific data. Please encourage your students to complete the survey as well!
