A brief update that the dean’s search committee met last week to review candidates for our new leader. Round-one interviews have been scheduled with a number of individuals for January 22nd-23rd with on-campus interviews to commence in February.

My thanks to each of you who were able to provide gifts or make a donation for the benefit of area Jackson County foster children during our annual holiday gift drive. SOE faculty and staff again stepped up to the challenge and provided 73 gifts and socks for all the children! We couldn’t have done it without the capable assistance of Ms. Dianna Brasington, and members of the Culture and Climate Team: Ms. Breann Branch, Ms. Karen King, Dr. Michelle Maher, Dr. Uzziel Pecina, Ms. Carol Sargent, Dr. Katya Strekalova-Hughes, Ms. Christine Timmerman, Dr. Connor Warner and Ms. Deb Woodard. Thanks to one and all for making the holidays a little brighter for some of our Kansas City families!

With graduation approaching this weekend, know that semester grades need to be submitted by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22nd.

As you may have heard, the SOE now has a way for faculty and staff to share their accomplishments or those of colleagues and students that is easy to use and I encourage all of you to submit your work and honors via the online form (password: accolades). We have begun to receive submissions and will soon determine the process for best disseminating and/or posting them. Stay tuned.

I am excited to report that The Learning Commons in room 129 will be undergoing renovations beginning Monday, December 21st through mid-February.  The SOE LearningCommons3computer lab will be unavailable beginning Monday, December 21st until possibly Spring Break, but the computer lab in 34 Education will be a temporary computer lab for our students.  Students also will have access to the general IS computer lab in 129B.  During renovations, the Student Services team will still be accessible but via the door into 129 by the elevator.

Given the start of renovations and limited personnel traditionally in the building over the holidays, please know that the SOE building will be closed December 28th-31st. I ask that any faculty planning to work in the building during this time frame to please be vigilant about making sure the doors remain locked and completely closed during entering and exiting. Our employees’ safety and security is of utmost concern! The building will remain locked from the afternoon of December 24th through the morning of January 4th.

And, I do want to wish each and every one of you a season of reflection and joy. Safe travels to any of those of you may be traveling for the holidays, and blessings of good food, family and friends to all!

P.S. We will take a short break from enews and resume January 25th.
