Welcome back to those of you who will be teaching classes during Summer Session! I will share our summer enrollment numbers once they are released, in the meantime, I ask all faculty and staff be as accommodating to our students as possible to assist with retention and future enrollment.
As you may know, last month, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management named exceptional graduating students who maintained high academic achievements while providing leadership and service to the University and our community as 2016 Honor Recipients. Please help me congratulate the two honorees from the SOE:
- Gloria Anderson, nominated by Breann Branch. Gloria is an IPh.D. student and will complete her studies this summer.
- Faiza Chaudhry, nominated by Dr. Angela Cottrell, Tara McGuffin and Chiluba Musonda. Faiza graduated with an M.A. in Educational Administration.
As a follow-up to a May email from the Provost, I want to remind you that the next round of the Funding For Excellence (FFE) Program will begin Fall Semester, 2016. Instructions for the application process, application format and budget are found on the FFE page of the ORS website. (Research and Economic Development web site: Pre-Award Office > Funding Opportunities > Funding for Excellence). A submission link will appear on the FFE web page once the application process opens (August 1st) with an application deadline of September 16th. Please direct your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
I also wish to alert you to the fact that parking rates for faculty and staff who utilize permit lots on campus will experience an increase in fees for the 2016-2017 academic year. View the story in UMATTERS for more details.
As announced previously, earlier this year we instituted a procedure to collect faculty and staff achievements. A reminder that you may submit faculty and staff achievements via http://education.umkc.edu/soe-achievements/ (password: achievements) or by going to the intranet link in the Quick Links section at the bottom of the SOE home page and from there choosing “SOE Achievements Submission Form”. I encourage all of you to submit information on your work or that of your colleagues.
The Culture and Climate Team will again be coordinating the annual School Supply Drive for Jackson County foster children this summer. Our goal is to have 25 backpacks donated along with all the required supplies and I hope that we will again take advantage of this opportunity to help assist children in our community who may not otherwise have the means to be adequately prepared for the next school year. The list of needed supplies is expected shortly and then donations are requested by Friday, July 22nd, in Student Services. More details to come!
