UMKC Charter School Center

In support of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Education’s mission “to create lifelong opportunities through education for America’s diverse urban communities,” the UMKC Charter School Center’s (UMKC CSC) mission is to empower urban youths to attain their full potential, thus resulting in a city, state, and nation that can compete in a global economy.

This is being accomplished by focusing on the following:

  • Development of high-quality urban schools that will retain and attract families with school-age children within the Kansas City Missouri School District;
  • Accountability for student achievement that will result in the UMKC charter schools closing the achievement gap with the state of Missouri regardless of economic standing, race, and students with special needs, in exchange for greater autonomy;
  • Sponsoring charter schools that have safe and orderly climates, high attendance, increased parent involvement, and effective governance practices, including fiscal responsibility and legal compliance; and
  • Providing schools of choice for parents and students that could encourage more effective practices and collaboration throughout the Kansas City Missouri School District.
