Morning Session: LEA- Roles and Responsibilities During an IEP Meeting 9-12 PM
Many assistant principals and principals and (even new sped directors) across KC are asked to be LEA’s at an IEP meeting without the slightest clue as to what their true role and responsibilities are at that meeting. In this session, Attorney’s Shellie Guinn and Ryan Fry will beyond the basics and bring in case law, to assist general education administration on their roles and how their decisions can impact IEPs and FAPE according to IDEA.
Afternoon Session: Disabilities and Discipline-What I Need to Know-: 1-4 PM
Shellie Guinn and Ryan Fry will provide critical information regarding the discipline procedures required for students with disabilities and will address the impact of the Safe Schools ACT, use of short and long term suspensions/ expulsions, in- school-suspensions, bus suspensions and everything districts need to know about the required “manifestation determination” before students with disabilities can be disciplined as non-disabled students. Administrators will learn how important collaboration between general and special education can be as they travel this difficult process to protect the learning environment of their schools.
Q&A will be offered after the presentation is complete for both sessions.
