The Academy is a year-long cohort experience, providing an opportunity to network with teachers across our region and state. Work will focus on state approved competencies which include topics such as student engagement, instructional strategies, and reflection on practices – all aligned with the Missouri State Teacher Standards. Fellows will complete a personal project which involves action research.
Participation requires 1 full day in early August and 6 days spread across the school year for regional meetings, a one day fall statewide kickoff session held in September, and a one-day winter statewide meeting held in January. Statewide meetings are usually held at Lake of the Ozarks. State meetings are facilitated by John Antonetti, noted researcher and author. All participants receive a complimentary copy of his book, “17,000 Classroom Visits Can’t Be Wrong.”
Tuition, transportation, food and substitutes will be the responsibility of the school or individual. Scholarships for all or a portion of the tuition are available until they run out, so apply early.
The criteria for becoming a Teacher Academy Fellow include:
•A current classroom teacher with at least three years of classroom experience
•A teacher with demonstrated classroom effectiveness
•A teacher with a commitment to sustained professional growth
