The Teacher Education (TE) Professional Program is the final two years of a student’s teacher certification program. Students who have been admitted to UMKC as a pre-education major and have completed all general education and pre-professional coursework are ready to apply to the TE Professional Program. If these requirements are uncertain and/or unmet, applicants will need to meet with an academic advisor prior to applying.
Am I eligible for the TE Professional Program?
The criteria for eligibility are:
- Admitted to the University of Missouri – Kansas City
- Complete Pre-professional requirements with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher in all TCH-ED courses and 3.00 or higher overall (cumulative).
- Completed, cleared national background check through the Missouri Automated Criminal History System (MACHS).
- Passing scores on the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) (valid ACT scores of 20 or higher will be exempted from the requirement)

MoGEA cut scores (minimum passing scores) are subject to change based on standards set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation programs.
Submission Process
Submit the Teacher Education Intent Form on or before the end of the Fall semester. This form is to notify faculty and Student Services which students plan to submit their full application materials in March. After you complete the form, you will receive an e-mail via your UMKC email address with further instructions about completing the background check process and documentation you will need for admission.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to participate in an interview with Teacher Education faculty. You will be notified in March to setup an interview with the Teacher Education program.
